In Progress

Since our trip last February  I have been working on a series of paintings. My attempt has been to transport the viewer to Egypt to see what everyday life is like. One of the paintings, Temple Guide, is done on papyrus that we purchased there.

This next work was adapted from our ride through Luxor Market by horsecarriage. Com'on along for the ride!

The trip included a cruise down the Nile. On board the ship was a young French woman whom I have attached the name  Cleo!  (boo!)  This was done in pastels on Canson paper.

Speaking of cruising , I wanted to capture the feeling of being on the boat and feel like one is traveling leisurely down river, which runs South to North, so I painted the following scene, in oil:

I did this small 8"x10" oil painting to lend an Egyptian interpretation to so many of those colorful Mexican doors one sees photographed and painted.

My next work  successfully was accepted into the Salmagundi
show last July. It was entitled Luxor Market.

While on a tour of the market one would often see unrefrigerated meat and fish being sold on a hot day. Here is one painting I did, using pastels, of fishermen at work.

Security was tight everywhere. I guess this is just a sign of the times. This guard kindly posed for a photo which I adapted into a large acrylic painting (24"x36"). After all tourism also means jobs.

Lastly, I wanted to remember the feeling of some of the typical buildings  around so I painted the following, using acrylics. I call it "Shaded"
